Description

Coming September 1!

Waiting for Things We Want is a research-based GrowTogether Flipbook that teaches kids (ages 4-7) patience skills in just 5 to 10 minutes a day.

What does Waiting for Things We Want help with?

It helps kids learn to delay gratification. Delaying gratification is a key life skill that's linked to better life outcomes — like higher educational achievement, higher income, healthier relationships, and lower rates of addiction.

Your child will benefit from this Flipbook if you've ever noticed them:

  • Having a meltdown in the grocery store because you said "no" to buying something
  • Interrupting you mid-sentence because they want something right now and can't wait
  • Constantly asking "Are we there yet?" on a car ride
  • Struggling to sit still and wait for something — their food at a restaurant, or to be called at the doctor's office

How does it work?

Waiting for Things We Want is set up like a comic book, so your child will be excited to sit down with you and do the activities!

You'll set aside 5-10 minutes a day (for 2 weeks, or longer if you skip a day here and there) to sit down with your child and go through 3 pages together.

You'll read aloud the dialogue and discussion question(s) to your child. The pages present real-life situations like waiting in line at an amusement park, or waiting for food to arrive.

As you go through the book, your child will learn simple strategies for coping with impatience. They'll become more aware of their emotions and how those emotions feel in their body.

Each short activity is followed by a note just for parents, so you get context on what your child is learning, why that matters, and how to extend practice into your daily family life.

Why parents love it:

  • No prep or planning is required on your part. Just sit down and go through 3 pages of activities a day!
  • It's quick. 5 to 10 minutes is all it takes. The Flipbook stands up on its own, so you can set it down on the table and easily make it a part of your dinner or breakfast routine.
  • It's actually fun for kids. The comic-book format keeps kids engaged and coming back for more.
  • It creates screen-free quality time. No devices needed; this book allows you to connect with your child and have meaningful conversations.

Who is this for?

  • Families with kids ages 4-7 (also works well with 8 year olds)
  • Busy parents who want results without a big time commitment
  • Parents looking to strengthen their relationship with their child

If you've ever felt like you're walking on eggshells because you can't give your child what they want right away, it's time to leave that feeling behind. And you can say goodbye to the embarrassment of your child having a meltdown in public!
