What should I do if my child resists using the materials with me?

A little pushback is completely normal, especially at first! Here are some tips to set you and your child up for success:

  • When your purchase arrives in the mail, share with your child how excited you are to use it with them. Open the box together and let them take a peek at the resource.
  • Spend a little time reading the directions on your own, so that when it’s time to use it with your child, you can get started right away.
  • Keep activities brief — they’re designed to take around 10 minutes.
  • Make the activities a part of your everyday routine, at a time when your child is usually in a good mood (e.g. after dinner or at breakfast). You can even allow your child to choose when they work on the activities — choice is motivating!
  • Use the progress tracker included in your purchase — with physical products, you’ll find an insert with a link to download a progress tracker. It’s motivating for your child to see how many activities they’ve finished!
  • Plan a small celebration for your child to look forward to upon finishing all of the activities, like going out for ice cream.
  • Keep in mind that if your child is having a hard day, it’s perfectly okay to skip a day and try again the next day! Keeping the experience positive is more important than sticking to a strict schedule. The goal is to create connection between you and your child, not pressure.
